FILK today
The research centre is a branch institute of the leather and plastic web industries. We see ourselves as preparators of practical solutions for minor and medium industrial enterprises in the framework of joint research. New scientific findings are prepared to come to marketable technologies and problem solutions. The performance range of projects that are performed by FILK comprises short consultations as well as large projects, which last for several years. The interdisciplinary profile of our staff – there are chemists, biologists, physicists, process and machinery engineers as well as computer specialists and economical engineers working in the institute – ensures proper project elaboration.
FILK works on a non-profit base only, on which the institute performs R&D projects that have been initiated within the framework of joint research and supported by federal and regional authorities. The Verein zur Förderung des Forschungsinstistutes für Leder und Kunststoffbahnen(FILK) Freiberg/Sachsen e. V. supporting association gives additional non-material and financial aid to the institute. It represents approx. 70 commercial enterprises, institutions and persons as members.
The Ministry of Economics and Employment of the Free State of Saxony supports the institute, in particular, by granting promotional funds to invest in equipment and infrastructure.
