Research focus of the cell culture laboratory is processing of collagen preparations into three-dimensional polymer matrices, filiform and tubular structures and their cell colonisation using 3D printing and freeze drying. Cell responses are analysed in correlation to modifications of material surfaces with plasma technology and by wet-chemical processes. In the cell culture laboratory, the collagen materials and other medical products are also tested for cytotoxicity and their endotoxin content is determined.
We aim to provide three-dimensional cell-compatible, biodegradable carrier and scaffolding materials for the regenerative medicine and tissue engineering. Furthermore, new model systems for in vitro toxicity tests and cell carrier systems for lab-on-a-chip systems are being developed.
