Heavy metals are used in a variety of ways. The following are mentioned as examples. They are used as pigments, as flame retardants (especially Sb2O3), as preservatives (compounds containing arsenic), as additive for coloring (Cr), in coatings and are components of alloys. A qualitative and quantitative determination of the metals contained, especially the heavy metals, provides information about the health risks posed by the examined product.
