TESLA TM-6001 (3.6.3.14) Scratch Resistance

Testing according TM-6001 (3.6.3.14): Scratch resistance

Our test laboratory performs testing according to Tesla TM-6001 (section 3.6.3.14) for the determination of the scratch resistance of Our laboratory performs testing according to Tesla TM-6001 (Section 3.6.3.14) to determine the scratch resistance of synthetic leather and coated textiles.

The Tesla material specification TM-6001 describes a standardized test method for evaluating the resistance of decorative surfaces to mechanical scratching. The test is performed using an Erichsen scratch tester under defined test conditions and is used to assess permanent surface damage resulting from mechanical contact. It is particularly applicable to synthetic leather and coated textiles used as upholstery and trim materials in vehicle interiors and supports the evaluation of their durability and visual quality.

Test Procedure

For testing, conditioned specimens are mounted in an Erichsen scratch tester and subjected to scratching with a standardized stylus under the conditions specified in the Tesla material specification. Following the defined scratch exposure, the surface is evaluated for visible scratch marks, surface damage and permanent changes. The results are assessed according to the acceptance criteria defined in the specification, enabling a reproducible comparison of different material qualities.

Relationship to other Tesla test specifications

Tesla TM-6001 (Section 3.6.3.14) complements other surface performance tests offered by the FILK testing laboratory, including Tesla TP-0000703 for chemical resistance, Tesla TP-0000906 for stain resistance and cleanability, and Tesla TM-5016 for abrasion resistance. While these test methods evaluate different types of surface loading, the scratch resistance test specifically characterizes the ability of a surface to withstand localized mechanical damage, thereby providing an important contribution to the assessment of the durability and in-service performance of synthetic leather and coated textile surfaces used in automotive interiors.
