Our test laboratory carries out tests according to DIN 53356 for the determination of the tear propagation behavior of artificial leather and similar sheet materials. The standard is entitled “Testing of artificial leather and similar sheet materials; Tear test”. DIN Media notes that the issuing body recommends the use of DIN EN ISO 4674-1 instead.
Test procedure
For testing, a standardized specimen with a defined cut is prepared and mounted in a tensile testing machine. During loading, the force required to continue tear propagation is recorded. The test provides information on the behavior of the material in the presence of local damage or existing cuts.
This standard has been withdrawn. The publisher recommends DIN EN ISO 4674-1 as its replacement, which is also offered by our test laboratory.
