Testing of burning behaviour for buses according to (UN) ECE-R 118

We are a designated Category A technical service by the German Federal Motor Transport Authority (Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt / KBA). This recognition enables us to carry out specific tests that are crucial for the safety and type approval of buses. We not only carry out the tests, but also accompany our customers through the entire process of type approval right up to the submission of the documents relevant for approval to the Federal Motor Transport Authority. Our services are recognized by leading manufacturers such as Daimler Buses & Trucks and MAN. Our services at a glance

We carry out tests that are required as part of type approval procedures in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2018/858. These tests are crucial for the passive fire protection of vehicles in class M3, subclasses II and III, as they have a direct influence on the evacuation time in the event of a fire. We cover the following annexes of (UN) ECE-R 118:

Annex 6: Determination of the horizontal burning rate of materials

Annex 7: Determination of the melting behaviour of materials

Annex 8: Determination of the vertical burning rate of materials

Annex 9: Determination of the property of materials to repel fuel or lubricants

 

Materials and applications

We test a wide range of safety-relevant materials and composites that are installed horizontally or vertically in the passenger compartment, more than 500 mm above the seat cushion and in the vehicle roof. These include:

  • Cover materials

  • Seat upholstery

  • Insulation

  • Panels

  • Insulating materials in engine and heating compartments

  • Flame retardant tests: We offer accompanying tests on flame retardant effectiveness and characterization of fire behavior (e.g. LOI).
