Our testing lab performs testing in accordance with the DIN EN ISO 3376 standard (determination of tensile strength and elongation at maximum force of leather) competently within an accredited procedure.

This test method is used to determine the mechanical tensile properties of leather and leather-like materials. It allows a precise assessment of tensile strength and elongation – key quality characteristics for materials used in demanding applications such as upholstered furniture, automotive interiors, shoe uppers, or technical leather products.

For testing, samples with standardized dimensions are cut from the material, taking into account the fiber direction. The samples are clamped at both ends in a tensile testing machine and stretched at a constant speed until failure. The standard specifies the gauge length, test speed, and climatic conditions (temperature and relative humidity) to ensure reproducible and comparable results. During the test, the applied force and elongation are recorded continuously.

From these measurements, the tensile strength (in N/mm) and the elongation at maximum force (in %) are determined. These values provide a reliable indication of the strength and flexibility of leather under mechanical stress.

Testing according to DIN EN ISO 3376 in our test lab therefore provides a dependable basis for evaluating the usability, material quality, and durability of leather products in various applications, including upholstered furniture, automotive interiors, shoes, and bags.
