Our test laboratory carries out tests according to FILK-QMA-1001 in an accredited procedure for the determination of the thickness of leather, collagen nonwovens and pericardium. This test method, developed by FILK, provides a reproducible determination of material thickness under defined measurement conditions and thus forms an important basis for the evaluation of material properties, quality control and the calculation of further physical parameters. The test is particularly suitable for leather, collagen-based materials and other biological materials.
Test procedure
For testing, the specimens are conditioned under defined conditions and measured using a standardized thickness gauge at a specified contact pressure. Thickness is determined at several measuring locations in order to account for potential material inhomogeneities and to obtain representative results. The measured values serve, among other purposes, as a basis for the evaluation of mechanical properties and for the calculation of area-related or volume-specific material parameters.
FILK-QMA-1001 complements the standardized thickness determination methods according to DIN EN ISO 2589 for leather, DIN EN ISO 5084 for textiles and DIN EN ISO 9073-2 for nonwoven fabrics, and provides a test procedure specifically adapted to the unique characteristics of collagen-containing materials.
