Testing methods
Our test laboratory performs testing according to Tesla TP-0000703 for the determination of the chemical resistance of automotive surface materials and is approved by Tesla Inc. to carry out this test.
The Tesla specification TP-0000703 describes a standardized test method for evaluating the resistance of coated and uncoated materials to the short-term exposure of typical service fluids, care products and environmental influences. The test is applicable to plastics, painted and decorative surfaces, films, coatings, synthetic leather, and other materials and components used in vehicle interiors and exteriors. It is used to assess whether surfaces retain their visual appearance and functional performance after exposure to chemicals.
Test Procedure
For testing, representative material specimens or components are conditioned under defined climatic conditions and subsequently evaluated using two standardized test methods. Depending on the test requirements, the surface is exposed either by repeated rubbing with a cloth saturated with the test chemical (crocking test) or by applying a defined amount of the test medium directly to the surface (spot test). Exposure is carried out under specified temperature and time conditions using test media representative of automotive interior and exterior applications, including artificial perspiration, skin oils, sunscreen, cleaning agents, fuels, engine oil, brake fluid, de-icing fluids and washer fluids. After exposure, the specimens are evaluated for changes in colour and gloss, staining, swelling, softening, cracking, blistering, adhesion loss and other surface damage.
