European Meeting on Fire Retardant Polymeric Materials (FRPM 2025)

The conference takes place every two years in Europe and has focussed on the effective fire retardancy of polymeric materials. The focus is on improving safety standards in terms of flammability, strengthening resilience and promoting sustainable development.

Dr Miriam Bader will present a poster on the topic: Starch and Bark Residues as Flame Retardants for Artificial Leather Based on Polyurethane. Residues from the starch and wood industry are used as biogenic flame retardants for artificial leather made of polyurethane. The residues are chemically modified so that an increased proportion of phosphorus and nitrogen is present. Comprehensive characterisation of the synthetic leathers using various combustion tests has shown that the biogenic flame retardants used come close to the fire-retardant performance of selected commercial flame retardants.
