About the presentation:
Dr Mandy Gersch, scientist in our department "Functional Layer Systems" will present results from her research work on "Development of thermoplastic films for roof waterproofing with high thermal insulation effect". With 21 %, the roof of a building contributes to heat loss or heating. Optimising the thermal insulation properties thus offers energy saving potentials. Results of tests with PVC and FPO on the twin-screw extruder are presented, in which inorganic silica aerogel is incorporated into the thermoplastic matrix by optimising the process conditions and the screw geometry, thus increasing the insulating functionality of plastic roofing membranes.
