Our project to develop a biodegradable, single-component synthetic leather based on PBS has been awarded the 2025 Biopolymer Innovation Award – presented at the Biopolymer Processing & Molding Congress organized by POLYKUM e.V. in Halle (Saale)!
Congratulations to our colleague Dr. Kristin Trommer and her team on this great success!
The goal of the research project was to develop a cost-effective process for producing an innovative synthetic leather with the following properties:
Carrier and layer structure made from the same polymer
Polymer matrix made from 100% renewable raw materials
Recyclable without separating the material components
Fully biodegradable in the environment
The project was funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE) as part of the Industrial Joint Research (IGF) program – thank you very much for your support! A heartfelt thank you also to Frank Gähr from DITF Denkendorf, our project partner, for the excellent collaboration!
