DR INA PRADE ELECTED TO THE ADVISORY BOARD OF THE DECHEMA SPECIALIST GROUP FOR CELL CULTURE TECHNOLOGY

The Society for Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology e. V. (DECHEMA) has elected new advisory boards for two of its specialist groups on the sidelines of its 3D Cell Culture 2018 conference.

In the future, Dr Ina Prade, scientist at FILK and group leader cell culture, will also be involved in the advisory board of the specialist group cell culture technology under the leadership of Professor Thomas Noll, Chair of Cell Culture Technology at Bielefeld University, and Professor Roland Wagner, Vice President Bioprocess at Development Rentschler Biotechnologie GmbH.

The specialist group includes members from large pharmaceutical companies, medium-sized businesses and research institutions with core competencies in cell culture technology. In this context, the DECHEMA Cell Culture Technology Section is particularly concerned with the following aspects:

  •     Increasing efficiency and reducing costs in drug production by increasing drug efficacy, new expression systems and more efficient production processes.

  •     Improvement of drug evaluation by reproducible generation of human organ-typical cell and tissue assemblies in vitro based on tissue engineering

New approaches in tissue engineering and stem cell biology with their enormous societal, medical and economic implications, as well as innovative models for in vitro drug evaluation, are contributing to an upsurge in the importance of cell culture technology. Of decisive importance for the further sustainable development of cell culture technology is the linking of the hitherto dominant disciplines of cell biology, molecular biology and bioprocess engineering with functional genome analysis (especially transcriptome, proteome, metabolome) and bioinformatics. In this way, the development of cell culture technology from a predominantly experimentally empirical discipline to a model- and theory-based discipline can be promoted.
