Rubber- or plastics-coated fabrics - Determination of roll characteristics - Part 3: Method for determination of thickness
Material
Our test laboratory carries out tests according to DIN EN ISO 2286-3 in an accredited procedure for the determination of the thickness of coated fabrics. The standard specifies a method for measuring the overall thickness of flexible sheet materials coated with plastics, elastomers or other coating compounds.
Test procedure
For testing, the specimen is placed between the measuring surfaces of a thickness gauge under defined conditions. The measurement is performed using a standardized contact pressure and a specified measuring area in order to minimize the influence of material compressibility and to ensure reproducible results. Depending on the material, several individual measurements are taken and evaluated.
The test is used for artificial leather, coated woven fabrics, technical textiles, tarpaulin materials, membrane materials, composite materials and other coated flexible sheet products. The measured thickness values are used for specification verification, material approval and quality control. For uncoated textiles, DIN EN ISO 5084 is commonly applied instead, as it is specifically intended for textile sheet materials without a coating.
