Our testing laboratory conducts testing in accordance with DIN EN ISO 27587 (Leather – Chemical tests – Determination of free formaldehyde content in auxiliaries for leather production) professionally and using an accredited testing procedure.
This standard specifies a standardized chemical analysis method for the quantitative determination of free formaldehyde in auxiliaries (process chemicals) used in leather manufacturing. It determines the portion of formaldehyde released from the sample under defined conditions. Analytical results are expressed in milligrams per kilogram of sample (mg/kg) and serve to assess the chemical properties of the auxiliaries used.
Test principle: A defined amount of the auxiliary is heated in an inert, dry atmosphere, causing free formaldehyde to be released from the sample under controlled dynamic conditions. This formaldehyde is then captured analytically and quantified.
Testing according to DIN EN ISO 27587 provides reliable quantitative information on the free formaldehyde content in process chemicals used in leather production. This information is essential for quality control, chemical safety, and compliance with requirements throughout the leather manufacturing process.
