Plastics - Determination of ash - Part 5: Poly(vinyl chloride)
Material
Industry
Our test laboratory performs accredited testing according to DIN EN ISO 3451-5 for the determination of ash content in polyvinyl chloride (PVC). The standard describes methods for determining ash or sulphated ash in PVC resins, PVC compounds, and finished products.
The test is applied to PVC films, PVC coatings, artificial leather, coated textiles, compounds, and technical PVC formulations. It is used for the control of mineral fillers, pigments, stabilisers, and inorganic formulation components, as well as for batch comparison, formulation comparison, and the investigation of competitor samples.
Test Procedure
For the tests, the specimen is thermally treated and ashed under defined conditions. The remaining residue is subsequently determined gravimetrically.
In addition, qualitative elemental analysis of the ash by EDX is possible, and, where sufficient ash content is available, quantitative elemental determination can also be carried out.
