Our testing lab performs testing in accordance with DIN EN ISO 527-3 (Determination of tensile properties of plastic films and sheets with a thickness below 1 mm) competently in an accredited procedure.

This testing method is used to determine the mechanical tensile strength and elongation properties of thin plastic materials under uniaxial loading.

For testing according to ISO 527-3, specimens are prepared from plastic films or sheets in strip form with defined dimensions (Type 2: 10 × 150 mm). For materials with orientation (anisotropy), both parallel and perpendicular specimen groups are tested to capture direction-dependent properties. The specimens are clamped in a tensile testing machine that maintains a constant test speed of up to 500 mm/min. The elongation of the specimens is typically measured optically over a gauge length of 50 mm, ensuring uniform stress distribution across the cross-section.

From the measured data, the following values are determined for each specimen: tensile stress at yield (MPa), strain at yield (%), stress at 200 % elongation (MPa), and elongation at break (%). All values are reported individually and as averages, including specimen thickness and statistical variation. The test report also provides information on specimen type, test speed, testing machine and measurement system used, clamping method, and the condition and conditioning of the specimens.

Conducting DIN EN ISO 527-3 testing in our laboratory provides reliable information on the mechanical tensile strength and elongation properties of thin plastic materials, including key characteristics such as strength, elasticity, and elongation at break. This procedure is applied to applications such as packaging films, technical membranes, medical films, and laminate sheets, and is relevant for regulatory standards, including automotive applications, e.g., Volkswagen VW TL 292 (PVC films).
