VCS 5031,19 Fire testing (accredited)

Flammability of interior materials

Our test laboratory performs accredited testing according to the Volvo standard VCS 5031,19 for the evaluation of the flammability of vehicle interior materials in the automotive sector.

Test Procedure

For the tests, the material is conditioned according to the specification requirements and positioned in the test apparatus. The specimen is then exposed to a flame under defined conditions. The assessment includes flame propagation, burning duration, burning distance, burning rate, as well as possible afterflame or afterglow behaviour. The test enables a reproducible evaluation of fire behaviour under standardized conditions.

The test is applied to seat materials, door trim components, textile and coated surfaces, foams, (synthetic) leather and flexible interior materials. It belongs to the group of automotive interior fire tests and is related to procedures such as SAE J369, GB 8410, TSM 0500G, and ISO 3795.
