Our test laboratory performs tests according to VDA 237-102 to a high technical standard. The specification brings together test procedures and conditions for coated textiles used in vehicle interiors. The methods are primarily intended for seat applications and cover basic material characteristics as well as mechanical loading, ageing, resistance properties and emissions. Specific material requirements are defined in the respective customer technical delivery specifications.
Test methods according to VDA 237-102
Basic characteristics include DIN EN ISO 2286-2 – Mass per unit area and DIN EN ISO 2286-3 – Thickness. Mechanical performance can be characterised using methods such as DIN EN ISO 1421 – Tensile strength and elongation, DIN EN ISO 2411 – Coating adhesion and VDA 230-209 – Flexural properties.
Durability and resistance testing includes DIN EN ISO 32100 – Flex resistance, DIN EN ISO 5470-2 – Abrasion resistance, VDA 230-218 – Scratch resistance and VDA 230-217 – Low-temperature resistance. Ageing effects may also be assessed by VDA 230-208 – Hydrolytic ageing or VDA 230-225 – Fat and oil exposure.
Additional areas include surface and media resistance, for example VDA 230-212 – Soiling and cleanability, VDA 230-223 – Amine resistance and VDA 230-228 – Disinfectant resistance. Odour and emissions are also covered, including VDA 270 – Odour characteristics, VDA 277 – VOC emissions and VDA 278 – Thermal desorption analysis.
Further information is available in our overview of VDA tests and specifications and in the test laboratory overview with a search function for standards, specifications and testing services. For specific material failures, we also provide support through failure analysis and material assessment.
