Our testing laboratory performs testing in accordance with the Volkswagen standard VW TL 226 using an accredited procedure. This technical delivery specification defines requirements and test methods for painted, coated, printed, or decoratively finished surfaces on materials used in vehicle interiors. The aim of the test is to evaluate the functional and optical durability of coating and paint systems under mechanical, climatic, and chemical stresses.

The standard is applicable to a wide range of materials and surfaces, including plastics, films, composite materials, as well as metallic and non-metallic substrates used in vehicle interiors and provided with decorative or functional coatings.

As part of the testing process, coated specimens are first preconditioned under defined conditions and then subjected to a series of individual tests. These include, among others, adhesion tests (e.g. cross-cut test according to DIN EN ISO 2409), scratch resistance tests, abrasion and wear tests, as well as chemical resistance tests against cleaning agents, sweat, or other application-relevant substances. In addition, climatic aging tests (e.g. heat and humidity exposure, climate cycling) are performed to assess the long-term durability of the coating.

The evaluation is based on criteria such as adhesion strength, surface changes, gloss and color variations, and mechanical resistance. The objective is to ensure that coated interior materials maintain long-term functionality and a high-quality visual appearance under real service conditions.

The results obtained by our laboratory provide a reliable basis for material approval, quality assurance, and the development of surface and coating systems in the automotive sector.
