Our accredited laboratory performs tests in accordance with standards issued by ASTM International. The internationally established ASTM test methods are used for the reproducible characterization and evaluation of materials, products and components and are applied across a wide range of industrial sectors.
The FILK testing portfolio includes ASTM testing in particular for leather and leather fibre materials, textiles and yarns, plastics, elastomers and films, coated textiles as well as other flexible materials, material composites and components. An important field of application is the testing of materials for automotive applications and vehicle interiors.
Depending on the material and the relevant ASTM standard, different categories of material and performance properties are investigated.
These include in particular:
strength and fracture properties, e.g. tear strength, tear resistance, stitch tear resistance and breaking force,
deformation and stiffness properties, e.g. elongation, flexibility and bending stiffness,
surface and friction properties, such as static and dynamic coefficients of friction,
optical properties, in particular haze and light transmission,
geometrical properties and basic material parameters, such as material thickness,
chemical properties and material composition, e.g. extractable substances or the determination of specific constituents of leather finishes,
properties of coatings and finishes, such as the flexibility and adhesion of leather finishes,
as well as burning behaviour and flammability, for example the horizontal burning rate of polymeric materials used in vehicle interiors.
