We supported Freiberg's communication campaign

FILK Freiberg stands for a respectful and peaceful coexistence in the city

Our institute is closely connected with the location Freiberg in a long tradition. With our name FILK Freiberg Institute we make a clear commitment to this. Our plans for the development of the institute and the location include investments in new jobs and infrastructure here in Freiberg. We cultivate an open, respectful and peaceful climate in our institute, which we also need in this city and the region.

As the legal successor to the first German Tanning School and the Research Institute for the Leather Industry, our institute stands in a tradition of over 130 years of internationally networked research and development activities. What used to apply to leather now applies to the raw material collagen, as well as to new alternative materials and auxiliaries from plants. In the field of research into biogenic materials for medical and technical applications, our institute has built up an excellent international reputation over the last 30 years. Our accredited testing laboratory is a provider of services to the automotive, furniture and textile industries and their suppliers from all over the world. We recruit scientists not only in the region, it is not uncommon for our graduate and doctoral students to come from many countries around the world. Like many companies in the region, we depend on an excellent reputation of our location.

As managing directors of the FILK Freiberg Institute, we observe with increasing concern how the tone and mood in the city have changed and how the image of the city and the region is being damaged. As a scientific institution, we can only fulfill our mission to contribute with our research work to better address objectives of the economy and society in a stable political environment.

Factual discourse must be possible. Critical discussion of the current Corona protection measures, and even protests, are expressly welcome, as long as they take place on the basis of our free democratic constitutional order. That is why we commit ourselves with our mission statement to stand up for a knowledge-based, liberal-democratic and open society. And that is why we support the campaign of the city of Freiberg.
