PAHs are a natural component of fossil raw materials and arise from incomplete combustion of organic material. Petroleum-based plasticizers are widely used in rubber and plastics. The lipophilic PAHs are of concern for humans and also for environmental organisms, as many of them have a carcinogenic, mutagenic and / or reproductive effect. Some PAHs are even persistent. For this reason, the specified limit values must be strictly observed.
