Our test laboratory carries out tests according to DIN EN ISO 6427 in an accredited procedure for the determination of extractable constituents in plastics. The standard describes a standardized extraction method using organic solvents at elevated temperatures below their boiling points. The aim is the quantitative determination of substances that can be extracted from the polymer matrix.
The extracted constituents include in particular low-molecular and migratable components such as plasticizers, monomers, oligomers, stabilizers as well as other additives or formulation ingredients. The resulting total value is used for material characterization and may provide information on formulation, processing conditions or potentially migration-relevant fractions.
Test procedure
For testing, the plastic sample is extracted under defined conditions using suitable organic solvents. After a specified extraction time, the solution is prepared and the residue is determined gravimetrically. The resulting mass is related to the sample mass and reported as the content of extractable constituents.
The test is used in particular for plastics and polymer-based composite materials. It serves material characterization, quality control and comparison of different formulations or production batches.
