Our test laboratory conducts testing in accordance with the Volkswagen standard VW TL 52064 using an accredited procedure. This technical delivery specification defines the material requirements for leather used in vehicle interiors and specifies the material, processing, and product properties that must be met for upholstery of seats, trim components, steering wheels, shift boots, and other interior elements. The standard differentiates between various leather types and intended applications for different component categories and sets corresponding minimum requirements and tolerances.
The specification covers general material properties (e.g., physical and mechanical characteristics, roughness, uniformity) as well as requirements for chemical safety and emissions (e.g., avoidance of harmful substances according to VW‑91101, emissions according to VW 50180), which are critical for interior applications. It also provides guidance on surface structure, finish, thickness, gloss, and grain characteristics, along with additional information on climate resistance, water resistance, color fastness, and other material-specific evaluation criteria.
During the VW TL 52064 conformity assessment, specimens are conditioned according to the standard, visually inspected, and measured. Typical test areas include the determination of mechanical properties (e.g., elongation, tensile strength), optical parameters (color deviations, gloss level), and material-specific requirements such as compression behavior or resistance to external influences and care treatments. Additionally, specimens are evaluated during initial sampling and batch testing to verify compliance with TL specifications.
