Leather for special applications in aircraft, ships, buses and for furniture must meet minimum fire protection requirements. Traditional halogenated flame retardants can accumulate in nature. For this reason, modern flame retardants are free from halogenated compounds. The brominated compounds have been banned since 2009 and DecaBDE has been classified as a POP (Persistent Organic Pollutant) since 2017.
