Leather products, textiles and furniture equipped with perfluorinated compounds have oil, dirt and water repellent properties. The best known perfluorinated and polyfluorinated compounds are PFOS (perfluorooctane sulfonic acid) and PFOA (perfluorooctanoic acid). In addition to these two acids, other substances in this class of compounds were classified as persistent, bioaccumulative and toxic. The substances themselves and products treated with them are therefore subject to legal requirements with regard to their use and marketing.
