Phthalates are mainly used as plasticizers in polymers (e.g. in cables, foils, floor coverings, toys and leisure items). Many of them have a toxic effect on reproduction and act as endocrine disrupting substances that can affect health by changing the endocrine system. Many phthalates are classified as SVHC and regulated by REACH Annex XVII.
