Preservatives / biocides are necessary in the global leather industry in order to safely transport semi-finished products and leather over long distances at different temperatures and moisture contents and thus protect them from mold. The use and the Europe-wide marketing of biocides are regulated by the currently valid biocide regulation (EG 528/2012). Limit values have so far been fixed in RSL lists.
