Our test laboratory performs testing in accordance with standard DIN EN ISO 1856 using an accredited procedure. This standard specifies a standardized test method for determining the compression set of flexible cellular polymeric materials, in particular polyurethane and latex foams. The aim of the test is to evaluate the recovery properties and long-term performance of foam materials after static compressive loading, which are essential for their functional behavior in application.
The standard includes several test procedures that allow the material behavior to be assessed under different temperature, time, and loading conditions. Typical applications include areas where foams are subjected to permanent or cyclic compression, such as upholstery, seating systems, mattresses, or technical cushioning elements.
During testing, standardized specimens are conditioned under defined climatic conditions and then compressed between two parallel plates to a specified relative deformation (e.g. 50% or 75%). The specimen is maintained in this მდგომარეობ for a defined period. After release and a specified recovery time, the remaining thickness is measured and the compression set is calculated as a percentage.
The parameters obtained from testing provide a reliable basis for assessing the permanent deformation, elasticity, and long-term durability of foam materials. A low compression set indicates good recovery properties of the material.
