FILK Freiberg Institute gGmbH testing laboratory invests in new testing systems

Since a few months, an autoclave as well as a condensation atmosphere and Kesternich corrosion test system supplement the infrastructure of the accredited testing laboratory at FILK Freiberg Institute gGmbH.
The autoclave (steam steriliser) can be used to carry out rapid ageing tests to investigate the effects of natural reactions such as oxidation or hydrolysis caused by moisture. The relevant physical properties, usually elongation and tensile strength properties are determined before and after performing rapid ageing. Polymer materials such as synthetic leather, coated textiles, plastics, films and foams or composites of these materials can be tested.
The condensation atmosphere and Kesternich corrosion test chamber can be used to test coated or painted materials for their behaviour in a humid environment. Depending on the test variant, the test is carried out in a protected climatic chamber under defined ambient conditions. With this condensation of moist air is provoked on the surface of the respective test specimen. The conditions can be varied, e.g. condensation atmosphere with constant humidity. The condensation atmosphere exposure takes place over a defined period of time. The test ultimately allows precise conclusions about e.g. the behaviour and performance of corrosion protection of coatings.
Particularly in the automotive sector, rapid ageing tests and material behaviour in humid environments and/or under alternating climate conditions are standard investigations. The testing laboratory at FILK has expanded its portfolio here to include this essential group of material tests.
Our accredited test laboratory offers a wide range of material aging and fatigue tests.
