FILK is new DGM supporting member

The Forschungsinstitut für Leder und Kunststoffbahnen (FILK) from Freiberg is a new supporting member of the German Furniture Quality Association (DGM). The independent research institute with an accredited testing laboratory is a non-profit organization and has always maintained a close relationship with the industry and users of its research fields. Overall, the history of the institute goes back more than 130 years, which is reflected in its wealth of experience to this day.

The two material groups, leather and plastic sheeting, represent FILK's extraordinary materials competence for the entire spectrum of flexible synthetic and natural polymer materials. These include materials such as leather, collagen products, coated textiles and other flexible, laminar composite materials and material composites. The application areas for these materials are as diverse as the material combinations, such as the automotive and furniture industries.

"Furniture quality starts with the research and testing of materials. We are very pleased that we have been able to gain another valuable partner for our quality association in the Forschungsinstitut für Leder und Kunststoffbahnen from Freiberg. The solution-oriented cooperation between research and industry ultimately also results in innovative products and material combinations from which our industry and end consumers can only benefit," says DGM Managing Director Jochen Winning.

The institute is represented in the association by Antoaneta Trommer. She came to FILK in 1999 as a graduate chemical engineer and initially worked as a research assistant on leather-specific research topics. Later, she moved to the institute's accredited testing laboratory, where she established the working area of damage analysis and assessment and later also took over the leadership of this working group. Her high level of material expertise in the field of upholstery materials has also convinced the IHK, and for the past year Antoaneta Trommer has been an IHK-certified expert for "leather and coated textiles". In the future, she will also put her experience and material expertise at the service of the DGM.
