Leather identification and animal species identification
The identification of leather and the verification of the labeling of leather according to RAL 060 A2 (“Differentiation of the term leather from other materials”) and DIN EN 17651:2022-09 (“Leather – Description, labeling and marking of leather goods”) are among the established tests in the testing laboratory of FILK Freiberg.
Aim and significance of the study
This analysis determines the material type and thickness to ensure that the product labeling as leather goods or "genuine leather" is used correctly and that legal requirements are met. This test is particularly relevant for importers, retailers, and brand suppliers of leather goods, as incorrect or false labeling can have legal and financial consequences.
Animal species identification and detection of prohibited species
In addition, FILK can perform species identification, which allows us to confirm a declared species or testify the exclusion of prohibited species. This examination is carried out using established microscopic and molecular biological techniques.
Online retailers of leather goods, in particular, are increasingly demanding appropriate species identification to ensure transparency and consumer protection.
Test certificate and documentation
After successful analysis, a test certificate can be issued that clearly documents the authenticity of the material and the identified animal species. This certificate serves as objective proof for manufacturers, retailers, and end customers.
