Our test laboratory performs a range of different investigations using manual soiling procedures to evaluate soilability and cleanability. The tests are used to assess the service properties of materials with regard to typical contamination and cleaning stresses encountered in practical applications. These procedures are primarily applied in automotive interiors, the furniture industry, and for functional surfaces with increased requirements for care and long-term durability.
As part of the tests carried out in our testing laboratory, defined solid or liquid soiling agents are manually applied to the material surface. Depending on the test requirements and specifications, defined intermediate storage periods and manual cleaning steps are then performed under specified conditions. The evaluations include, among other things, the penetration behavior of contaminants, remaining residues, changes in appearance, color changes, or gloss changes of the surface. The investigations also enable the assessment of anti-soiling finishes, coatings, and material-dependent cleaning properties.
Most of the test specifications originate from the automotive industry (including Mercedes-Benz, Ford, Volvo, General Motors, and Tesla), where they are used for testing materials in vehicle interiors.
