Under the motto "Sustainability in the leather industry", the Association for Tannery Chemistry and Technology (VGCT) e.V. and the FILK gGmbH jointly organized the Freiberg Leather Days again this year.
Following on from the success of the last two years, this once again provided a forum for the exchange of information and experience among experts from the tanning and leather industry. The organizers were delighted to welcome more than 180 participants from 17 mainly European countries to a total of 19 specialist presentations on July 2 and 3, 2014 in the Alte Mensa in Freiberg.
The topics of the contributions on the first day of the event ranged from technological approaches to sustainable leather production and downstream processes to macro-ecological considerations. The series of lectures was followed by a panel discussion, in which this year's motto was discussed with speakers and experts from various fields and which was very well received by the audience.
The second day of the event was dedicated to new technological developments and quality aspects across the entire process chain of leather production.
In the evening between the two conference days, participants had the opportunity to take a guided tour of Freiberg. Afterwards, the VGCT Awards Ceremony took place during the evening event. This year's honorary prize was awarded to Prof. Michael Stoll for his exemplary and exemplary services to the promotion of leather science as well as his extremely high commitment to the establishment of a restructured qualified training and further education program for the leather industry. Mr. Sebastian Väth, the best student of the year among the Reutlingen tanning students, received the VGCT Sponsorship Award.
Next year, the 4th Freiberg Leather Days will take place in Berlin on June 18 and 19, 2015, in accordance with the VGCT tradition of changing conference locations.
